The National Women’s Soccer League announced today that Racing Louisville FC midfielder Savannah DeMelo has been named the Player of the Month, presented by EA SPORTS, for the month of May by the NWSL Media Association and the NWSL’s on-air broadcast talent.

NEW YORK (June 6, 2023) - The National Women’s Soccer League announced today that Racing Louisville FC midfielder Savannah DeMelo has been named the Player of the Month, presented by EA SPORTS, for the month of May by the NWSL Media Association and the NWSL’s on-air broadcast talent.

Drafted by Racing with the fourth overall pick in the 2022 NWSL Draft, DeMelo was electric for the Kentucky-based club in May, tallying three goals and two assists in five competitions. The Bellflower, California native opened her impressive month of scoring with her first career brace in Racing’s 3-2 UKG NWSL Challenge Cup win against the Kansas City Current on May 17. Her second goal of the match served as an all-important game-tying tally en route to the club’s eventual victory. Three days later, the midfielder notched a goal – the game-winner – and an assist in the club’s 2-0 win over the Current on the road. DeMelo rounded out her offensive tear on May 31, adding an assist in Racing’s 2-0 shutout of the Chicago Red Stars to close out a productive month for the club. Thanks to DeMelo’s efforts, Racing earned a 4-2-0 record across the month of May. With 15 weeks remaining in league play, DeMelo has already surpassed her scoring totals (4G, 2A) from her rookie season, boasting six goals and three assists across all competitions so far this year.
