Reign FC has traded forward Shea Groom, defender Megan Oyster and a conditional natural second round draft pick in the 2022 NWSL College Draft to the Houston Dash in exchange for the rights to defender Amber Brooks and forward Sofia Huerta, the two teams announced today.Groom was selected 12^th overall by Kansas City in the 2015 NWSL College Draft and was named the team’s Rookie of the Year that same season. The forward has registered 21 goals and 11 assists in 90 career games and has made three playoff appearances with FC Kansas City and Reign FC. In 2019, the Missouri native scored two goals in 15 games played for Seattle, logging 1,036 minutes. Prior to her professional career, Groom was a standout player for the Texas A&M Aggies, totaling 41 goals and adding 25 assists in 85 games played, earning SEC Offensive Player of the Year in 2014. The 26-year-old received her first call-up to the senior U.S. women’s national team in 2016 for a pair of friendlies against Switzerland but has yet to earn a cap. Oyster joins Houston following a two-year stint in Seattle where she scored one goal and added two assists in 40 games played. The defender was acquired 13^th overall by the Washington Spirit in the 2015 NWSL College Draft and helped lead the team to the NWSL playoffs in 2015 and then to the club’s first ever NWSL Championship in 2016. The Naperville, Illinois, native hails from UCLA where she guided the Bruins to their first ever NCAA women’s soccer title in 2013, recording the assist on the game-winning goal against Florida State. Oyster has spent time with the Newcastle Jets of the Australian W-League and earned her first call-up to the senior USWNT in March 2017 for a pair of friendlies against Russia, making two appearances as a substitute. Brooks returns to Seattle following a four-year run with the Dash. Brooks joined the league in its inaugural season as the 24th overall pick to Portland. The veteran midfielder has appeared in 123 games, registering 9,583 minutes, scoring six goals and adding four assists. For Houston, Brooks was named the 2017 Dash MVP, captaining the team eight times that season. She earned 2018 Dash Defender of the Year honors and played her 100th career NWSL game on April 14, 2019, becoming the 22nd player to reach that mark. The midfielder made her senior USWNT debut against Brazil in 2013 as a starter playing 81 minutes. Brooks is a two-time NCAA National Champion (2009, 2012) with the University of North Carolina, scoring 34 goals and adding 19 assists in her career with the Tarheels. Huerta was selected 11th overall by the Chicago Red Stars in the 2015 NWSL Draft and has totaled 32 goals and 19 assists in 109 career games. Houston acquired Huerta in June 2018 and the forward went on to score 10 goals and added eight assists in 36 games for the Dash. The Boise, Idaho, native has earned NWSL Second XI honors in 2015, 2017 and 2018, was named the NWSL Player of the Month for May 2015 and April 2018 and was a finalist for the 2015 NWSL Rookie of the Year award. Huerta earned her first cap for the USWNT against New Zealand in 2017, entering the game as a substitute and adding an assist.
