FC Kansas City have signed defender Sydney Miramontez, the club said on Wednesday. The rookie defender is a native of Lenexa, Kansas — near Kansas City, Missouri, where the Blues play. She has trained with FCKC this season and played for the WPSL’s GSI Pride.“I am beyond excited to begin my professional career with FCKC. It is a true honor to represent my hometown alongside a talented group of players and coaches. I’m so eager to get started,” Miramontez said in a team press release. Also on Wednesday, the Breakers announced that they had signed Jamie Gillis as a goalkeeper replacement ahead of Friday night’s game vs. FC Kansas City. Starting goalkeeper Abby Smith is on international duty with the U.S. women’s national team at the Tournament of Nations, which concludes Thursday night. Gillis is a Massachusetts native who most recently played in the WPSL with the Boston Breakers Reserves.
