San Diego Acquires Three More Players in Trade With Chicago

Wave FC receive rights to Doniak, Johnson, Turnbow in exchange for 2022 NWSL Expansion Draft protection and allocation money

CHICAGO (December 2, 2021) -

San Diego Wave FC and the Chicago Red Stars have agreed to a trade that sends the rights to forwards Makenzy Doniak and Katie Johnson, as well as Red Stars 2021 NWSL Draft selection Kelsey Turnbow to Wave FC in exchange for allocation money and protection in the 2022 NWSL Expansion draft presented by Ally.

CHICAGO (December 2, 2021) -

San Diego Wave FC and the Chicago Red Stars have agreed to a trade that sends the rights to forwards Makenzy Doniak and Katie Johnson, as well as Red Stars 2021 NWSL Draft selection Kelsey Turnbow to Wave FC in exchange for allocation money and protection in the 2022 NWSL Expansion draft presented by Ally. Doniak scored three goals across 18 games with Chicago last season. She won the 2016 NWSL championship as a rookie with the Western New York Flash before moving to the North Carolina Courage the following year and playing in the 2017 NWSL final. Johnson was drafted into the NWSL in 2017 by Seattle Reign FC with the 16 th overall pick. She scored twice in 26 games for Chicago this season, including in the team's 2-0 semifinal victory against Portland Thorns FC to help the Red Stars to the Championship match. Turnbow, who currently plays collegiately for Santa Clara University, won the national championship last year with the team. Turnbow will look to repeat as champion as Santa Clara participates in the semifinals of this season's tournament this Friday.
