Ashley Hatch scored her second goal of the season as the Washington Spirit topped Sky Blue FC 1-0 in front of a home crowd of 2,433 at Maureen Hendricks Field Maryland SoccerPlex in Boyds, Maryland.Sky Blue FC dropped to 0-6-1 (1 point) with the loss and are still in search of their first win under new coach Denise Reddy. The win was the second of the season for the Spirit, who still sit in eighth place and hold a 2-5-2 record (8 points). Hatch’s goal came in the 64th minute, a header on a free kick by Andi Sullivan after Mallory Pugh was fouled by Sky Blue’s Christina Gibbons. It’s Sullivan’s first NWSL assist. [Empty Body] The goal is the first for the Spirit after being shutout in three straight games. Aubrey Bledsoe made four saves to earn her second shutout of the season. Spirit midfielder Rose Lavelle made her 2018 NWSL debut, and played her first minutes as a member of the Washington Spirit after entering in the 74th minute. Lavelle had missed all of this season after suffering a left hamstring strain last June. [Empty Body] Sky Blue FC had a late chance to tie it on a Savannah McCaskill free kick in the 87th minute, but Carli Lloyd‘s header was caught by Bledsoe. Both teams came into the match after losses on Saturday and both teams will be back in action this weekend. Sky Blue FC will host the second-place Seattle Reign FC on Saturday night and the Spirit will travel to Houston to visit the Dash on Sunday night.
