[**Rose Lavelle**](https://www.nwslsoccer.com/players/view/4j3kopvvd3iej6p4h9z36giqd) was selected first by the Washington Spirit in the 2018 NWSL Dispersal Draft, which took place on Tuesday afternoon. Players from the Boston Breakers, [which ceased operations on Sunday](https://www.nwslsoccer.com/news/#nwsl-announces-boston-breakers-to-cease-operations), were available for selection by the league’s nine teams.The [Spirit acquired the first pick in a trade with Sky Blue FC](https://www.nwslsoccer.com/news/#final-order-set-for-dispersal-draft), who had held the first pick after [Monday’s weighted draw](https://www.nwslsoccer.com/news/#nwsl-announces-dispersal-draft-order-and-available-players). In exchange for the pick, the Spirit sent No. 2 overall pick in the dispersal draft and a conditional first-round and natural second pick in the 2019 NWSL College Draft to Sky Blue FC. With the second pick in the dispersal draft, Sky Blue selected **Savannah McCaskill**. McCaskill was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NWSL College Draft earlier this month. Four players listed on the retired list were selected: **Kyah Simon** by the Houston Dash, **Whitney Engen** by the Chicago Red Stars, **Lindsay Elston** by Seattle Reign FC and **Amanda DaCosta** by Utah Royals FC. Per the 2018 roster rules, players listed on the retired list will count against the teams roster for the 2018 season. The rest of the players selected in Tuesday’s draft were under contract or a 2018 NWSL College Draft Pick. Teams are able to have up to four of those players not count against their 2018 roster. Before the deadline, Sky Blue FC traded the No. 1 overall pick in the dispersal draft to the Washington Spirit in return for the No. 2 overall pick in the dispersal draft and a conditional first-round and natural second pick in the 2019 NWSL College Draft. Also, the Orlando Pride traded the No. 8 and No. 11 picks in the dispersal draft to Seattle Reign FC in exchange for Seattle’s natural first-round in the 2019 NWSL College Draft. The draft was a “snake” draft, meaning the order of the picks reversed after each round. The first round was picks 1 through 9 and then the second round was 9 through 1, and so on.
