Boston nearly walked away with a 2-1 home win over Portland, but Thorns forward Nadia Nadim spoiled the party in the 83rd minute. Nadim finished a pass from forward Hayley Raso to salvage a draw for the visitors in front of a crowd of 3,321 at Jordan Field. The Breakers got off to a strong start with a goal from forward Natasha Dowie in the 38th minute and then from midfielder Rosie White in the 48th minute to start the second half quickly. But the Thorns found their way back into in the 67th minute it as midfielder Lindsey Horan forced a handball in the box from Boston defender Megan Oyster for a penalty kick. Nadim stepped to the spot and converted her third penalty kick of the season to make it 2-1. Nadim has never missed a penalty kick in her NWSL career, going a perfect 8 for 8. Nadim’s second goal in the 83rd minute was the equalizer as Horan found Raso running down the left wing. Raso then threaded a pass through several defenders in the box that Nadim was able to calmly slip past Breakers goalkeeper Abby Smith for the game-tying goal. The Thorns played the match without midfielder Allie Long, who was listed as questionable on the injury report with a right hamstring strain. Nadim has now scored four of Portland’s five goals so far this season. She has 25 career regular season goals, the seventh player in NWSL history to reach that plateau.
