By Celia BalfOn Tuesday, Portland Thorns FC announced the signing of Swiss international striker Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic. She will join the reigning NWSL champions pending the receipt of her P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Crnogorcevic comes to Portland from Frauen-Bundesliga side FFC Frankfurt. The 27-year-old has played the last seven seasons for them and helped Frankfurt to the 2015 UEFA Women’s Champions League title and a German Cup the year before. “Ana brings class, experience and a proven record at the club and international level to Portland,” Thorns FC head coach Mark Parsons said in a team press release. “She is a versatile forward with a winning mentality and has a great desire to be the best. She competes with a tireless attitude and her ability to create and score will be a great addition to our roster.” Crnogorcevic is the all-time leading goal scorer (50) in 101 appearances for the Swiss women’s national team. She will join Portland following the April FIFA window. [Empty Body] Portland played their first match of the 2018 NWSL regular-season on Saturday, falling 1-0 to the North Carolina Courage. Thorns FC were missing key players on all parts of the field due to injuries and international duty. Bringing in Crnogorcevic was a move Thorns FC general manager Gavin Wilkinson said was “imperative” after the injury to Australian international Caitlin Foord. Foord is recovering from surgery to repair a lisfranc injury she obtained during the W-League semifinal in February. Thorns FC return back to NWSL action on Saturday, March 31 against the Chicago Red Stars.
