The atmosphere at Audi Field erupted when Washington Spirit’s Trinity Rodman scored her seventh goal of the season on Saturday, leveling the match in front of a passionate crowd of more than 14,000 fans.
After Ashley Hatch delivered a perfectly timed through ball, Rodman made a run at goal, cut past the defense, and slotted the ball into the back of the net.

The celebration that followed was just as electric, with Rodman running to the sidelines with her teammates to mime a slam dunk in front of newly announced Washington Spirit investor, NBA legend Magic Johnson.

But the drama didn’t end there.
In the final moments of the match, Leicy Santos provided the match-winner with a sensational diving header. After a perfectly placed cross from Rodman on the right wing, Santos met the ball mid-air and directed it into the back of the net for the game-winning goal.

Santos’ goal secured the Spirit’s 13th win of the season, setting a new club record for most victories in a single campaign and further cementing their position in the league standings.
