The U.S. women’s national team announced its roster for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France on Thursday. All 23 players on the roster are from the NWSL, from eight of the league’s nine teams. The roster will become official when it is submitted to FIFA on May 24, U.S. Soccer said, the deadline for all teams to submit their final rosters for the tournament.“Selecting a World Cup team is a long process, and I want to thank the players – the ones that made the final team and the ones that didn’t – for all of their hard work over the past two and a half years,” U.S. women’s national team head coach Jill Ellis said in the team’s announcement. “They all pushed each other in every training session and every game and challenged the coaches to make some tough decisions. These 23 players have been through adversity and success, and it’s a group that has the talent, confidence, experience and desire to help us win the World Cup.”

**** Fourth Women’s World Cup Eleven players have made a Women’s World Cup roster for the first time, including Courage midfielder Crystal Dunn, who just missed out on making the team in 2015 and went on to win the NWSL MVP that season. Reign FC midfielder Allie Long also makes her first Women’s World Cup roster after playing every season of WPS and NWSL. Courage Jessica McDonald, an NWSL veteran and one of the league’s top scorers all-time, is also on a Women’s World Cup roster for the first time after a strong 2018 season and scoring her first two international goals this past winter. Red Stars midfielder Morgan Brian makes her second Women’s World Cup roster, after not being on the recent rosters for the SheBelieves Cup and April friendlies this year. Pride defender Ali Krieger is on her third Women’s World Cup roster. Krieger most recently played all 90 minutes on April 7, her first appearance since 2017 and her 99th international appearance. Four players to have been called in for the April friendlies were not included on this roster: Courage midfielder McCall Zerboni, Red Stars defender Casey Short, Spirit midfielder Andi Sullivan and Houston Dash goalkeeper Jane Campbell. Zerboni and Short are allocated players for the 2019 NWSL season. Twelve players were part of the 2015 Women’s World Cup championship team. The United States will open their Women’s World Cup on June 11 vs. Thailand. They’ll then face Chile on June 16 before wrapping up the group stage vs. Sweden on June 20.
