Reign FC midfielder Megan Rapinoe scored her sixth goal of the tournament in the 61st minute. Washington Spirit midfielder Rose Lavelle followed that with her third in the 69th minute. The U.S. women’s national team broke a 0-0 deadlock in the second half with two goals and beat the Netherlands 2-0 to win the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The win came in front of a sellout crowd of 57,900 fans at Stade de Lyon in Lyon, France.Rapinoe won the Golden Ball trophy, awarded to the tournament’s best player. She also won the Golden Boot for top scorer. Lavelle won the Bronze Ball, with England’s Lucy Bronze winning the Silver Ball. Orlando Pride forward Alex Morgan won the Silver Boot. Rapinoe’s goal came from the penalty spot, her third penalty conversion of the tournament. After a VAR review awarded the penalty for a foul on Morgan, Rapinoe stepped to the spot and scored her 50th career goal.
