Portland Thorns FC midfielder Tobin Heath has been voted Week 1 NWSL Player of the Week by the NWSL Media Association.Heath tallied a goal and an assist to propel the Thorns ahead of the Orlando Pride 2-0 on Sunday. Heath’s assist came in the 45th minute after receiving a pass in the 18-yard-box from Christine Sinclair. Heath pulled her defender wide and then backheeled a pass to teammate Caitlin Foord, who drove the ball into the back of the net for the first goal of the match. Heath’s goal came in the 49th minute when Foord returned the favor, sending a low cross to Heath, who pulled off a behind-the-back touch with the inside of her right foot to redirect the ball into goal. Heath finished the game with four total shots, three on goal and eight chances created. This is the second time Heath has been named NWSL Player of the Week. She last earned the honors in Week 6 of 2016.
