BATTLE OF THE GREATS
The Orlando Pride travel west to take on San Diego Wave FC where Wave forward Alex Morgan will square up against her former team for the second time this season. The match on April 19 saw the Pride take home all three points in a 1-0 victory off a goal from midfielder Summer Yates.
With an appearance in the match on Friday, Pride forward Marta is set to become the first Orlando player to play 100 regular season games for the club. The Brazilian international and her teammates will look to break through Naomi Girma and San Diego’s defense to extend their current eight-game winning streak, the longest win streak in NWSL history.
EAST VS. WEST
Angel City FC head across the country to take on NJ/NY Gotham FC in a West Coast vs. East Coast battle. Gotham FC is one of four clubs who have not lost a game at home this regular season. With a shutout, goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger can tie Abby Smith for third in club history with four shutouts. Berger has also gone six straight games without a loss so a win/draw against LA will tie the club record set by Kailen Sheridan in 2021. Gotham midfielder Ella Stevens will look to extend her career-best three-game scoring streak in her first season with NJ/NY.
TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME
Bay FC and the Chicago Red Stars step up to the plate in the Windy City as the two clubs will take the pitch at Wrigley Field and give a new meaning to the ball game. This will be the first match-up in NWSL history at a Major League Baseball stadium. Chicago took home all three points in the clubs’ first matchup this season, defeating the expansion side 2-1 at PayPal Park. Bay FC is looking for their first road win since March 17 against Angel City FC.
ROOKIE ROUNDUP
Three of the top five picks from the 2024 NWSL Draft, presented by Ally, face off when Ally Sentnor and the Utah Royals host Croix Bethune and Hal Hershfelt of the Washington Spirit. All three rookies have played every game for their clubs this season and have a combined eight goals through Week 10.
TROPHY WAR
Portland Thorns FC face off against the North Carolina Courage for the second time this season after the Courage took all three points in a 2-0 victory at WakeMed Soccer Park during Week 4. The two clubs have the most trophies combined in the NWSL with the Thorns holding three Championship titles (2013, 2017, 2022), two NWSL Shields (2016, 2021), the 2021 Challenge Cup, and the 2020 Fall Series title, while the Courage have two Championship titles (2018, 2019), three NWSL Shields (2017-19) and two Challenge Cup titles (2022, 2023).
