Friday, August 8
Houston Dash vs. North Carolina Courage - 8 PM ET
How to watch: Paramount+ & NWSL
Houston Dash return home after a spicy back-and-forth game last weekend in the Bay Area where goals weren’t a problem for them. They’ll look to repeat that on Friday against the Courage, who are unbeaten in their last three and coming off a scoreless draw with San Diego, where midfielder Manaka Matsukubo once again was a problem for defenders and nearly found the breakthrough. For Houston, sophomore Avery Patterson has been a revelation, adding to the team’s creativity and scoring goals of her own as well. Barbara Olivieri is also a player teams have yet to figure out how to counter, but the Dash will need to tighten things up defensively to end their home struggles.
Utah Royals FC vs Kansas City Current - 10 PM ET
How to watch: Prime Video
NWSL fans are going to be watching this one. Friday night’s NWSL action ends with the Utah Royals hosting the red-hot Kansas City Current and this time, with forward Ally Sentnor on the other side of the field. Last weekend, right as Week 14 was about to kick off, it was announced the Royals were trading Ally Sentnor to Kansas City Current, a trade that shook the league as many wondered: how can the already stacked Current keep getting away with this? But the Royals showed grit in a 1-1 draw with Orlando last week, with Mina Tanaka stepping up to get her second goal of the season and rookie keeper Mia Justus filling in for Mandy McGlynn in net to make a Goal of the Week-nominated save to keep the tie. Kansas City, meanwhile, are top of the league and cruising. Temwa Chawinga is one goal away from tying the current Golden Boot leader, and with her next goal, will be the fastest in NWSL history to reach 30 goals (39 games compared to Christen Press’s previous record of 52). All of this, plus the Current welcomed back Debinha last week, making the league leaders even more dangerous heading into the weekend.
Saturday, August 9
Gotham FC vs Washington Spirit - 12 PM ET
How to watch: ESPN & ESPN+
The first Rivalry Weekend presented by Ally match of the weekend features a marquee District vs. Empire showdown between Gotham FC and the Washington Spirit. Gotham got a boost last weekend from rookies Sarah Schupansky and Khyah Harper, who combined for the opening goal in a 1-1 draw with Chicago, but with the return of Golden Boot leader Esther, will be fully locked in on getting more than a point this weekend. Meanwhile, Washington is coming off a dramatic 2-1 win over Portland, capped by Trinity Rodman’s return to the field after a lengthy injury absence, followed by a stoppage time game-winner (her third-ever, and a new league record). It’s going to be the perfect NWSL After Brunch viewing for NWSL fans who like a little bit of spice with their mimosas and avocado toast.
Orlando Pride vs Racing Louisville FC - 7:30 PM ET
How to watch: ION
Saturday match action continues with the Orlando Pride welcoming Racing Louisville for a rematch of their June meeting, which saw Racing take a glorious 2-0 win at home. This time, Orlando will be looking to get some points to start chipping away at the gap between them and the Current, with Barbra Banda and her eight goals this season leading the charge. Banda was held in check last week against Utah, but Prisca Chilufya stepped up with a clutch equalizer. Louisville, meanwhile, are coming off a home loss to Kansas City and will look to bounce back behind forward Emma Sears, who leads the team with six goals this season. Orlando has lost just twice at home this year and will want revenge for that earlier defeat.
San Diego Wave FC vs Angel City FC - 10 PM ET
How to watch: ION
It’s everyone’s favorite SoCal Showdown and the second Rivalry Weekend presented by Ally match of the weekend as San Diego and Angel City clash at Snapdragon Stadium. Both sides are looking to bounce back from scoreless showings in Week 14, with San Diego drawing 0-0 against North Carolina and Angel City falling 2-0 to Seattle. Adriana Leon and Delphine Cascarino remain the key creative pieces for the Wave, with Cascarino leading the team in assists. On the other side, Riley Tiernan and Alyssa Thompson continue to shine in attack and have a few new offensive pieces in Sveindis Jónsdóttir and Evelyn Shores surrounding them who, once acclimated, can really change things for the LA-based team. Historically, it’s been tight: Angel City holds a narrow edge with four wins to San Diego’s three, but only one goal separates the sides in total.
Sunday, August 10
Chicago Stars FC vs Bay FC - 2 PM ET
How to watch: CBS & Paramount+
Chicago Stars and Bay FC face off Sunday in a rematch of their April meeting, which saw the Stars earn a 2-1 road win in the Bay Area. Both teams are coming off draws: Chicago held Gotham to 1-1 thanks to a goal from Ally Schlegel, while Bay shared points with Houston in a wild 2-2 affair that featured rookie Taylor Huff’s first career goal. Racheal Kundananji is a dynamic force for Bay, and if it weren’t for the meddling post last weekend, would have scored two goals. Penelope Hocking added her fifth goal of the season, and with six goal contributions in the last seven games, she’s in fantastic form. Chicago’s Ally Schlegel and Ludmila, both of whom gave Gotham problems last weekend, will look to provide the firepower at home in what could be a high-scoring matchup.
Portland Thorns FC vs Seattle Reign FC - 4 PM ET
How to watch: CBS & Paramount+
In the third Rivalry Weekend presented by Ally match of Week 15, NWSL’s most storied rivalry returns to Providence Park as the Portland Thorns host Seattle Reign. Portland is undefeated at home this season and will be eager to rebound after a tough loss in D.C. last weekend, while Seattle rides in with momentum from a 2-0 win over Angel City. Jess Fishlock found the net in that match and remains the engine for a young Reign squad eager to keep climbing the table. Portland, led by the youth as well, have the scoring talents of Olivia Moultrie and Reilyn Turner, the leadership of Sam Coffey, and the clutch creativity from midfielder Jessie Fleming. While legends like Christine Sinclair and Megan Rapinoe have retired, the rivalry remains fierce as a new generation carries the torch, surrounded by passionate fans for both teams. Seattle won the last meeting between these sides, but the Thorns won’t want to disappoint their home crowd.
