Another shutout in Kansas City, a trophy lift, a joyous goal celebration in Utah, and a tense West Coast vs. East Coast draw. This weekend had it all and more. Here’s how it played out, one match at a time.
Angel City FC 2, Washington Spirit 2
Both sides traded punches in a lively draw in Los Angeles with 2025 WNBA Rookie of the Year Paige Bueckers in attendance. Trinity Rodman opened the scoring from the spot in the 12th minute, finishing on the rebound after Angelina Anderson saved the initial penalty, before ACFC leveled three minutes later via an incisive endline run from Gisele Thompson and a clean finish by defender Evelyn Shores, her first NWSL goal. Thompson is now tied with Delphine Cascarino for most assists in the league (5). The hosts claimed the lead in the second half when Riley Tiernan’s dribble and shot forced a Tara McKeown own goal, but the Spirit answered in the 71st as Croix Bethune timed her run to nod home Leicy Santos’s diagonal service, splitting the points.
Houston Dash 1, Chicago Stars FC 0
Houston narrowly defeated a late surging Chicago behind a first-half strike from Yazmeen Ryan and a strong defensive shift to secure a fourth clean sheet of the season. Ryan capitalized on a turnover in the 28th minute, driving into the box to finish low to the far post, and then later saw a penalty saved by Alyssa Naeher as the Dash pushed for insurance. Abby Smith delivered six saves for Houston after replacing Jane Campbell early in the first half, while newcomers Malia Berkely and Anna Heilferty logged their first Dash minutes in a result that keeps Houston within playoff contention.
Orlando Pride 0, North Carolina Courage 1
A late winner lifted the Courage over the Pride in Orlando Friday night. After Maycee Bell’s first-half goal-line clearance preserved parity, Shinomi Koyama found the decisive moment in the 89th minute, hammering home from just behind the spot after Aline Gomes started the play with a darting run into the box. Goalkeeper Marisa Jordan, now in her third game starting in goal, recorded her first regular-season clean sheet.
Utah Royals FC 3, Racing Louisville FC 2
Utah’s three-goal first half set the tone in a five-goal barn burner in Utah to close out Friday night. Mina Tanaka produced a deft flick-and-volley for the opener on 13 minutes, then set up Janni Thomsen for her first Royals goal in the 38th before Cloé Lacasse smashed in a stoppage-time third, her first since returning from an ACL tear. Louisville rallied after the break through Emma Sears (68’) and a top-corner free kick from Janine Sonis (81’), but the Royals closed the door late to claim back-to-back wins and extend their unbeaten run to six.
Kansas City Current 2, Seattle Reign FC 0
Kansas City clinched the 2025 NWSL Shield in front of their devoted home fans with a measured performance and a record-setting defense. Debinha converted from the spot in the 34th minute after a VAR-awarded handball, and Temwa Chawinga’s 74th-minute header provided insurance. The Current’s ninth straight shutout extended their league-record scoreless run to 14 shutouts this season, a league record, capping a night that saw the Current lift their first major trophy in franchise history.
Portland Thorns FC 1, San Diego Wave FC 1
Portland salvaged a point late at Providence Park Saturday night against the San Diego Wave who looked dangerous but failed to convert their chances. After both goalkeepers’ first-half saves kept the match level, San Diego broke through in the 56th via Savannah McCaskill’s low drive from distance. The Thorns pressed and were rewarded in the 86th when an Olivia Moultrie free kick rattled the bar and fell to Reyna Reyes’s feet, who tapped in the rebound for the equalizer. The draw is further evidence of how competitive the middle of the playoff race is, but both teams will need to grab better results in the weeks to come if they want to cement their playoff positions.
Bay FC 1, Gotham FC 1
A second-half spark earned Bay a draw at home after Gotham carried a 1-0 halftime lead. Esther González’s perfectly weighted through ball found Rose Lavelle for a composed finish in the 36th minute. Jordan Silkowitz’s saves kept the hosts within reach, and substitute Racheal Kundananji delivered the response five minutes after entering the match, curling in from the top of the box in the 69th for her second goal in as many matches. Bay’s late pressure couldn’t find a winner, while Gotham took a road point in a tightly contested affair to close out the weekend.
