Chicago Red Stars forward Sam Kerr has been voted the Week 5 NWSL Player of the Week by the NWSL Media Association.Kerr scored twice and added an assist in Chicago’s 3-1 win over the North Carolina Courage, which snapped North Carolina’s 15-game regular season unbeaten streak. Her first goal came in the 13th minute to put the Red Stars on the board first, taking a pass from Yuki Nagasato and slotting it far post. Her second goal came in the game’s final moments as the Courage pressed for an equalizer. Kerr picked up a headed backpass and dribbled in between two Courage defenders and towards goal. She took a touch to her right to get around Abby Erceg, and then drilled the ball into the back of the net to put the Red Stars up 3-1 and seal the win. She assisted on Michele Vasconcelos goal in the 40th minute, which was the game-winning goal. Kerr also made a big defensive clearance in the first half to keep the Courage from scoring a second goal. Kerr is the second member of the Red Stars to win Player of the Week this season, joining Nagasato, who won in Week 3.
