Alex Morgan scored in the eighth minute and the Orlando Pride never looked back at Jordan Field, defeating the Boston Breakers 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. Morgan provided both the game-winner as she finished her brace in the 73rd minute, while Boston Breakers midfielder Amanda DaCosta converted a penalty kick in the 90+8’ as her last play before her retirement from the NWSL.In front of a sold-out crowd in Boston of 4.321 fans, the Pride pushed their way back into the top four on the table for at least a few hours. The Pride are now at 29 points on the season and earned their third win on the road this season, and have scored 10 goals in the last three games. Alex Morgan has been a huge part of that form, scoring six goals in the the month of August through four games played, including two braces. She kicked things off today in the eighth minute, salvaging a corner kick play when the Breakers couldn’t quite clear the ball from in front of goalkeeper Abby Smith. [Empty Body] The Breakers nearly had a chance to equalize in the 32nd minute, but neither forward Ifeoma Onumonu nor midfielder Rosie White could get the final touch on the ball right across the face of goal. [Empty Body] Amanda DaCosta subbed into the match in the 76th minute to finish out her NWSL career, and her final touch was converting a penalty kick deep into second-half stoppage time, after a foul on Breakers forward Adriana Leon in the box. [Empty Body] The Pride outshot the Breakers 16-8, with seven shots on goal to the Breakers’ one. Morgan and Marta led the way once again offensively, with Morgan taking six shots, Marta three, and Marta adding four key passes and four chances created. The Pride stay on the road next week, traveling to Kansas City for the Game of the Week on Lifetime on August 26 at 3:30 p.m. ET, before a rematch against the Breakers on Sept. 2 in Orlando. Boston will head to New Jersey next weekend to take on Sky Blue, who are in the middle of their own fight to make the playoffs.
