Boston Breakers rookie midfielder Rose Lavelle has been named Player of the Month for the month of April by the NWSL Media Association.Lavelle, the No. 1 overall draft pick at the 2017 NWSL College Draft, tallied a goal and an assist in April as Boston finished 2-1-0 over the first month of the season and currently sits in second place. Lavelle notched her first career assist in Boston’s second game, a 1-0 win over Sky Blue FC, assisting on Natasha Dowie’s game-winning goal for Boston’s first win of the season. She then scored her first goal in Week 3, a 3-0 win over Seattle Reign FC. The rookie collected a pass from forward Adriana Leon and then beat Seattle defender Kristen McNabb and goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer with a right-footed shot to the far post. FC Kansas City midfielder Erika Tymrak (July 2013) and Chicago Red Stars midfielder Sofia Huerta (May 2015) both earned the honor in their first year. The two wins are the first time Boston has won two matches during the first calendar month of the NWSL season. The Breakers will next face the first-place North Carolina Courage at home on Sunday (6 p.m. ET).
