Here’s the short version of Sky Blue FC forward Sam Kerr’s June: She flipped after scoring. She flipped while scoring. She helped break the fastest goal record.Basically, Sam Kerr did everything this month. And now Kerr has been named June Player of the Month by the NWSL Media Association. Kerr earns the honor for the second straight month, only the second player in NWSL history to record the feat, joining former Reign FC midfielder Kim Little, who won in April and May en route to winning league MVP in 2014. She assisted on Raquel Rodriguez’s goal just 24.76 seconds into the game, officially the fastest goal in NWSL history. On the goal, Kerr’s initial cross was blocked, but she grabbed the rebound and found Rodriguez open in the box for the goal. She then recorded two breakaway goals to seal the three road points, celebrating with a memorable backflip after her second goal. Also on the second goal, she headed the initial ball down to herself, maintaining control while she raced down the field before beating Thorns FC goalkeeper Adrianna Franch. Then on Wednesday night at home vs. Orlando, she forced a great save from Pride goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe, earned a penalty kick for Sky Blue — and scored an unforgettable bicycle kick at the start of the second half. She is the first Sky Blue FC player to ever win the honor twice. She now has 31 career goals, second among all active NWSL players. The NWSL Player of the Month is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis.
