Gold Medal Match: Sweden vs. Canada – Friday, August 6th 8:00 AM ET (USA Network)

United States vs. Canada: Canada 1 – United States 0

Nine NWSL Canadians punched their ticket to the Gold Medal Match at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after defeating the the United States, 1-0. The win by Canada marked its first win over the U.S since 2001. Canada will look to win the Gold Medal for the countries first time after earning the Bronze in the previous two Olympics while the United States will bid for the Bronze Medal after losing in the quarter-finals at the 2016 Games. After a scoreless first half, Canada went up 1-0 in the 74th minute on Jessie Fleming’s penalty kick against backup U.S. goalkeeper Adrianna Franch. Starting goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher came down awkwardly trying to go up for the ball in front of her goal in the 20th minute. While she tried to stay in the game, Naeher couldn’t continue and Franch was subbed into the game in the 30th minute. The United States increased their pressure and had several great opportunities to find the equalizing goal as Carli Lloyd fired off a shot in the 65th minute that forced Canadian goalkeeper Stephanie Labbe to leap and push it over the crossbar. A short time later, Labbe stopped a Julie Ertz' header off a corner from Megan Rapinoe. Lloyd then hit the crossbar in the 86th minute that came close to tying it once again. Canada started Portland Thorns, Christine Sinclair who is the all-time leading international goal scorer among men or women with 187 goals. The competition featured 18 NWSL players for USA and nine NWSL players competing for Canada, including teammates facing off against each other from Gotham FC, Houston Dash, OL Reign, Orlando Pride and the Portland Thorns.

Sweden vs. Australia: Sweden 1 – Australia 0

Sweden will be looking to win the Gold Medal for the first time after they were the Silver medalists at the 2016 Olympics. Australia will be competing for a soccer medal for the first time in its countries history regardless of gender. The Matildas were denied a goal by Sam Kerr in the 42' after an offside call. Sweden then would come out in the second-half and quickly find the game winning goal in the 46'. Australia's Chloe Logarzo partially blocked Filippa Angeldal's long-range shot but it took a wild deflection and a backtracking goalkeeper, Teagan Micah was only able to tip the awkwardly bouncing ball off the crossbar. In the resulting chaos, the ball came out to Fridolina Rolfo who stuck out her leg and scored the goal.

The contest featured one NWSL player representing each team with Chloe Logarzo of Kansas City suiting up for Australia and Washington Spirit's Julia Roddar playing for Sweden. Check out the full list below of the NWSL players set to compete for an Olympic Medal.
